2015 Queen Of The Turf Stakes Odds Update

One of the four Group 1s in Sydney today is the Queen Of The Turf Stakes 2015 for the fillies and mares, the latest betting odds for which remain led by the Group 1 winning filly in the field First Seal.

There are no scratchings from the original 15 final acceptors for this year’s $1 million Group 1 Cellarbrations Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) despite the Randwick track getting out to a Heavy (9) rating following overnight rain.

John Thompson’s Flight Stakes winner First Seal sits top of the Queen Of The Turf Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at a steady $3.50, an unchanged price since markets on the final field opened.

She’s drawn in gate eight with James McDonald riding and has run first or second in all but one of her 10 career starts to date that have netted a quartet of wins.

A great Randwick record of two wins and two seconds, plus two-from-two on Soft going and a second on Heavy going proves good form rain or no rain today and she is tipped to beat home her older rivals here on the back of a second in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) from March 28.

There are just two other single figure hopes in the latest Queen Of The Turf Stakes betting markets then with Noble Protector out from $3.60 to $3.70 and Catkins at $4.60 to improve on her sixth in this race last year.

Robert Smerdon’s in-form import Noble Protector shoots for her third win of the autumn here in her Sydney debut following victories in the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington and the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley first and second-up in Melbourne.

Both of those impressive wins, by four and a half and two lengths respectively, however were on Good (3) tracks and she is yet to encounter a Heavy course.

She could be a sketchy bet then with such a deep track today especially coming up against a couple of known mudlarks.

Chris Waller’s five-year-old daughter of Dubawi Catkins meanwhile is one of those having saluted in both her previous runs on Heavy ground.

The most recent of those was last year’s Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1600m), a race she successfully defended her title in last time out when improving on a narrow second to Cosmic Endeavour in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

Last Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival the gallant grey backed up from the Emancipation Stakes to run sixth to Diamond Drille, a 40/1 outsider in betting, in the Queen Of The Turf.

With more give in the ground this autumn for the Group 1 though Catkins looks a nice bet at good odds to finally score a deserving elite level title.

The big Queen Of the Turf Stakes market mover however is Amanpour backed right in from $31 to $19.

Prepared by last year’s winning trainer Gai Waterhouse who did it with a roughie shot 12 months ago, four-year-old Northern Meteor mare Amanpour comes off a good second to Catkins in the Emancipation Stakes, which Diamond Drille ran fourth in before her Group 1 upset.

If the form coming out of that race holds Amanpour is a genuine hope at a track she’s yet to run a place in from four previous starts, and she’s one that should be able to handle the wet conditions.
